TORONTO, June 1 (UPI) -- Javier Vazquez recorded a season-best 12 strikeouts Friday night, giving Chicago's starting rotation a needed boost as the White Sox beat Toronto, 3-0.

Chicago starters had gone 0-5 with a 7.17 ERA in their previous seven games.

Vazquez (3-3) allowed six hits over eight innings as the White Sox halted a five-game losing streak.

Bobby Jenkins worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 15th save.

Jerry Owens, called up to replace the injured Darin Erstad, scored twice and Tadahito Iguchi had two RBI for the White Sox.

The loss went to A.J. Burnett (5-5), who gave up only six hits over 7 1/3 innings, but surrendered all of Chicago's runs.

Erstad went on the disabled list Friday with a sprained left ankle.
