CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 31 (UPI) -- Rod Higgins, who has 23 years of NBA experience as a player and front office executive, was named Thursday as the general manager of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Higgins was general manager of the Golden State Warriors for the last three seasons. He was an assistant GM with the Washington Wizards for three seasons before that.

He played 13 seasons in the NBA, appearing for Chicago, Seattle, San Antonio, New Jersey, Golden State, Sacramento and Cleveland. He averaged 9 points and 3.6 rebounds a game over 779 games.

"His success in Washington and Golden State is proof that he has the vision and work ethic to give us the type of information that will improve our product on the floor," said Michael Jordan, managing member of basketball operations.

Higgins will be responsible for managing and overseeing all player personnel matters, including professional and collegiate scouting, draft preparations, training camp, preseason scheduling and the team's athletic training, equipment and conditioning programs.
