MLB: San Diego 9, Pittsburgh 0

PITTSBURGH, May 30 (UPI) -- Chris Young and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout Wednesday as San Diego ripped Pittsburgh 9-0.

San Diego blew a close contest open by scoring seven times in the last two innings, including five in the top of the eighth.

Khalil Green belted a three-run homer and scored two runs while collecting four hits for the Padres. Young, Mike Cameron and Marcus Giles each knocked in one run for the Padres, who have won four of their last five games.

Young (6-3) yielded four hits in seven scoreless innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. Relievers Doug Brocail and Justin Hampson hurled one scoreless inning each.

Chris Duffy had two of the five hits for the Pirates, who have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher Paul Maholm (2-7) gave up four earned runs and six hits in 7 2/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
