SAN DIEGO, May 25 (UPI) -- Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a grand slam in the fifth inning Friday night and the San Diego Padres withstood a late Milwaukee charge to defeat the Brewers, 8-6.

Kouzmanoff's homer gave the Padres a 7-0 lead, and they picked up the win despite allowing the Brewers three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Greg Maddux bounced back from a miserable outing in which he gave up seven runs and 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings against Seattle. He surrendered nine hits and three earned runs over 5 2/3 Friday night, improving to 4-3.

Milwaukee starter Dave Bush (3-5) gave up seven runs in five innings.

Marcus Giles singled to lead off the San Diego fifth, stole second and scored on a base hit by Mike Cameron. Adrian Gonzalez then singled and Josh Bard drew two-out walk on a 3-2 pitch to set up the homer by Kouzmanoff.
