GREEN BAY, Wis., May 26 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers Saturday said Bob Harlan will continue as principal executive in the wake of a leave of absence of Chief Operating Officer John Jones.

The team said in a news release that Jones' leave is for personal reasons. The move delays Harlan's planned retirement.

"It's been a very difficult year but also a wonderful year in many respects," Jones said. "I need to step back and recharge my batteries."

"We are pleased that Bob has agreed to provide leadership continuity for the organization," said Executive Committee member Peter Platten. "The Executive Committee has tremendous confidence in Bob and his capable staff."

Platten added that Harlan will remain for a period of time to be determined as the committee continues an evaluation of the team and collectively determines its next steps.

One situation likely is the future of veteran quarterback Brett Favre, who recently denied he made trade demands.
