ATLANTA, May 24 (UPI) -- John Smoltz gave up seven hits in seven scoreless innings Thursday night to get his 200th career victory as the Atlanta Braves edged the New York Mets, 2-1.
While out-dueling former teammate Tom Glavine, Smoltz (7-2) did not walk a batter and fanned five.
Bob Wickman earned his seventh save of the season.
Matt Diaz hit a solo home run, Jeff Francoeur hit a sacrifice fly, and Diaz had two of the five hits for the Braves, who took two of the three games between the NL East front-runners.
The Mets scored on a groundout by Julio Franco in the top of the ninth.
Carlos Beltran had two hits for the Mets, who have dropped three of four.
Glavine (5-2) surrendered two earned runs and five hits in six innings, with two walks and two strikeouts.
