SURRY, Va., May 22 (UPI) -- A prosecutor in Virginia is continuing an investigation into alleged dog fighting on a property owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.
Commonwealth Attorney Gerald Poindexter and investigators with the Surry County Sheriff's Office reviewed evidence in the case Monday and decided that bringing charges or dismissing the case would be premature, USA Today reported Tuesday. A U.S. Department of Agriculture investigator was also at the meeting.
The 65 dogs, including 55 pitbulls, were discovered three weeks ago in cages and pens on the 25-acre property. Vick reportedly sold the property May 9.
A neighbor, Ernest Hardy, told USA Today that he has not seen any evidence of dog fighting.
"If it had been going on, it seems like I should have heard something," he said.
Hardy said that the dogs appeared to be getting good care and he thought Vick was a dog lover.
But he disputed Vick's claim that he rarely used the property, saying he had had a number of conversations with him.
