MLB: Cincinnati 8, Washington 7

CINCINNATI, May 21 (UPI) -- Javier Valentin's pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth inning Monday lifted the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-7 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Scott Hatteberg was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI for the Reds, who trailed by as many as six runs and never led in the game until Valentin's home run.

Ken Griffey Jr. got his 572nd homer and Adam Dunn went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Cincinnati, which won for just the fifth time in 19 games.

Brandon Phillips' 22-game hit streak, longest in the National League this season, came to an end as he went 0-for-4.

Austin Kearns, in his first game in Cincinnati since being traded to the Nationals last season, had a two-run homer for Washington.

Jon Coutlangus (2-0) worked 1 1/3 perfect innings for the win, while David Weathers pitched the ninth for his ninth save of the season. Reds starter Bronson Arroyo was charged with six runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Washington starter Levale Speigner was charged with five runs on seven hits over three innings.
