
CLEVELAND, May 17 (UPI) -- Fausto Carmona hurled a complete-game shutout Thursday afternoon as Cleveland beat Minnesota, 2-0, completing a three-game sweep.
Victor Martinez and Ryan Garko hit back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh inning for the Indians, who had only four hits in the contest.
Carmona (5-1) walked two batters and struck out four, needing 121 pitches, 76 of them strikes, to earn his fifth straight win, and his first career shutout.
He tossed six shutout innings after allowing three runs in the first inning of his last start, and has a streak of 15 scoreless innings.
Four players also had one hit for the Twins, who have dropped seven of eight overall.
Losing pitcher Johan Santana (4-4) gave up two earned runs and four hits in seven innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
Santana has thrown at least five innings in 100 straight starts, the fifth longest streak in the past 50 years.
