OTTAWA, May 16 (UPI) -- Ryan Miller made 15 saves in the third period and 33 overall Wednesday night as Buffalo stayed alive in the NHL playoffs with a 3-2 victory over Ottawa.
Ottawa had its lead in the Eastern Conference finals reduced to 3-1 and will try again to capture the series when Buffalo hosts Game 5 on Saturday.
Chris Drury had a goal and an assist in helping Buffalo to a 3-0 lead. He scored what proved to be the winning goal midway through the second period.
The Senators struck twice late in the second, but Miller then slammed the door as the Sabres killed off two third-period penalties.
With the Ottawa crowd ready to celebrate a sweep of the series and a first-ever chance to play for the Stanley Cup, Derek Roy gave Buffalo a huge lift by scoring just nine seconds into the game. Maxim Afinogenov then scored Buffalo's first power-play goal of the series after the Sabres had come up empty 18 times with the man advantage.
Only two teams in NHL history have come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series.
