BOSTON, May 14 (UPI) -- Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched his first complete Major League game and Julio Lugo hit a three-run triple as the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers, 7-1.
Matsuzaka (5-2) won his fourth straight decision Monday and also gave Boston its first complete game this year. The 26-year-old Japanese right-hander was charged with six hits and a run and did not walk a batter.
Jason Varitek was one of seven Red Sox players with two hits and scored twice, as Boston won for the seventh time in its last eight games.
Losing pitcher Nate Robertson (3-3) allowed 11 hits and three runs through five innings. The AL Central-leading Tigers lost back-to-back games for the first time since April 27-28.
