BALTIMORE, May 14 (UPI) -- A field of eight horses, including Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, has been confirmed for Saturday's Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.
The field is less than half the 20-horse field that ran in the May 5 Kentucky Derby. The draw for post position is scheduled for Wednesday.
In addition to Street Sense, Kentucky Derby runner-up Hard Spun and third-place finisher Curlin were entered in the 132nd Preakness. Also entered are C P West, Flying First Class, King of the Roxy, Mint Slewlep and Xchanger, none of which ran in the Kentucky Derby.
Carl Nafzger, who trains the Kentucky Derby champ, is looking for his first Preakness victory.
"I feel good about him," said Nafzger. "This is a tough race, though. This is going to be one of the best Preaknesses we've had in a long time."
The 1 3/16-mile Preakness is the second race of the Triple Crown. No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
Last year's Preakness was marked by Kentucky Derby champion Barbaro breaking down shortly after leaving the gate. The injury led to the horse being euthanized several months later.
