
NEW YORK, May 12 (UPI) -- J.J. Hardy hit a grand slam homer and drove in five runs Saturday afternoon as the Milwaukee Brewers trounced the New York Mets, 12-3.
The slam was part of a five-run eighth inning.
Corey Hart hit a two-run triple; Tony Gwynn Jr. had three runs, three hits and one RBI; Craig Counsell had three runs and two hits; Bill Hall had three hits and one RBI; Johnny Estrada had two hits and one RBI; Prince Fielder had one run, two hits and one RBI; while Tony Graffanino had two runs and two hits for the Brewers -- who had an eight-game winning streak snapped Friday night.
Winner Ben Sheets (3-2) gave up three earned runs and four hits in six innings.
David Newhan hit a two-run homer; a run scored on a wild pitch; and Carlos Beltran had two of the six hits for the Mets -- who had a three-game winning streak broken.
The loser was Mike Pelfrey (0-5).
