Woods seeks win at Players Championship

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., May 9 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods will go after his second victory in as many weeks beginning Thursday at America's most lucrative golf tournament -- The Players Championship.

The $9 million event will take place over the revamped TPC Sawgrass course, which was able to test out its new sub-air drainage system Wednesday. More than an inch of rain fell on the course and the layout was quickly made ready for play thanks to a set of pumps that draws the water into a series of underground pipes.

Woods, who won last week's tournament in Charlotte, N.C., is scheduled to tee off at 7:51 a.m. EDT in the company of Henrik Stenson and K.J. Choi.

Woods' chief rivals -- Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson -- appear to be in good form since both finished in the top five last week. Mickelson will tee off at 8:44 a.m. along with Bart Bryant and Stewart Cink. Singh has a 1:44 p.m. tee time in a group with Heath Slocum and Olin Browne.

Defending champion Adam Scott will be an afternoon starter in a pairing with Fred Funk and Trevor Immelman.
