
PHOENIX, May 9 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard belted a pinch-hit grand slam homer in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday as Philadelphia beat Arizona 9-3.
Shane Victorino hit a two-run homer and scored twice, and Chase Utley, Michael Bourn and Jimmy Rollins all had one RBI for Philadelphia. Aaron Rowand had two runs and two hits, while Rollins also had two hits for the Phillies, who avoided a three-game sweep.
Howard has missed five straight starts because of leg and quadriceps ailments.
Winner Jamie Moyer (4-2) allowed three earned runs and six hits in seven innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
Orlando Hudson and Eric Byrnes hit solo homers for Arizona. Chris B. Young hit a sacrifice fly and Conor Jackson had two hits for the Diamondbacks, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
The losing pitcher was reliever Brandon Medders (1-1).
Arizona starter Randy Johnson gave up three earned runs and four hits in six innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.
