MLS: Broken jaw sidelines K.C.'s Conrad

KANSAS CITY, Kan., May 8 (UPI) -- Kansas City Wizards captain Jimmy Conrad is expected to miss a week after suffering a broken jaw in Saturday's 1-0 MLS victory over Columbus.

Just minutes into Saturday's game, Conrad collided with Columbus' Ricardo Virtuoso. He fractured his jaw but did not leave the game.

Conrad will not undergo surgery and plans to sit out Saturday's game against CD Chivas USA, the Wizard's Web site said Tuesday.

Conrad, a member of the U.S. National Soccer team, missed seven weeks because of broken jaw last season but he was still a finalist for Major League Soccer Defender of the Year.

The team said he would go on a soft diet and be re-evaluated by a doctor May 16.
