MLB: Oakland 5, Tampa Bay 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 6 (UPI) -- Adam Melhuse hit a key two-run single Sunday afternoon to help the Oakland Athletics beat Tampa Bay, 5-3.

Nick Swisher and Jack Cust hit solo home runs; Dan Johnson hit an RBI single; and Swisher had two hits for the Athletics -- who have split their last four games.

Winner Joe Blanton (3-1) gave up three runs -- two earned -- and 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Huston Street earned his ninth save of the season.

B.J. Upton and Brendan Harris each had one RBI, one run scored on a throwing error by Bobby Crosby, while Harris, Delmon Young, Carlos Pena and Ty Wigginton all had two hits for the Devil Rays -- who also have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher Edwin Jackson (0-5) was charged with four earned runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings, with four walks and six strikeouts.
