ARLINGTON, Texas, May 3 (UPI) -- Rookie right-hander Phil Hughes of the New York Yankees Thursday was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
He is the seventh Yankees hurler to go on the DL this season.
"For the most part, they are not even arm injuries," fellow pitcher Mike Mussina said on the team's Web site earlier this week. "I have never seen anything like this, and I have been playing for 17 years. If it's not that, they are getting hit by line drives."
Hughes was injured during an attempted no-hitter against the Rangers at Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday and is now expected to be out four to six weeks. He needed eight more outs in his major league debut.
The Yankees have recalled Chris Britton from Class AAA Scranton, and also plan to use rookies Darrell Rasner and Matt DeSalvo in Hughes' absence.
