Youzhny, Baghdatis win at Munich

MUNICH, Germany, May 2 (UPI) -- No. 3 seed Mikhail Youzhny or Russia and fourth-seeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus were among Wednesday's second-round winners at the BMW Open in Munich.

Youzhny beat crowd favorite Benjamin Becker, a native of Germany, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3), while Baghdatis came from behind to beat German qualifier Matthias Bachinger 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 6-4.

In other matches, eighth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria downed Raemon Sluiter of Netherlands 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, and German Alexander Waske beat fellow German Daniel Brands 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).

The BMW Open winner will win a first-place check of $76,000.
