The Mets announced the roster move Monday but said it was retroactive to last Wednesday.

Hernandez was scheduled to start against the Florida Marlins on Monday but Chan Ho Park was tabbed to make that start for the Mets. Park was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans where he was 3-1 with a 7.29 earned run average in four starts.

Hernandez is 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA after five starts this season. He owns a career record of 83-61 and a career ERA of 4.14. He's been a major leaguer since 1998.

Verplank makes move in men's golf rankings

PHILADELPHIA, April 30 (UPI) -- Scott Verplank jumped 37 places and Phil Mickelson inched into third place in the latest men's world golf rankings.

Verplank used his victory in last week's EDS Byron Nelson Open in Texas to move from 68th place to 31st place in the men's rankings.

Verplank had developed a personal relationship with Nelson, a golf legend, making his one-stroke victory at the Nelson Open all the more poignant.

Mickelson finished tied for third and moved past Adam Scott for No. 3 in the world rankings.

Tiger Woods, who returns to PGA play this week, remained the top-rated golfer followed by Jim Furyk. After Mickelson and Scott is Ernie Els at No. 5.
