NEW YORK, April 30 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez was named Monday as the American League Player of the Week.

Ordonez batted .571 with 12 hits in 21 at-bats. He had two home runs and five doubles, drove in 11 runs and scored seven times while accumulating a 1.095 slugging percentage.

In two games against the Los Angeles Angels last week, he was 6-for-7 with six runs scored, a home run and four runs batted in. He followed that up with a 3-for-4 effort and three runs batted in against Chicago on April 25.

The four-time All-Star's seventh career player-of-the-week honor and his first with Detroit.
