MLB: Kansas City 4, Minnesota 3

MINNEAPOLIS, April 25 (UPI) -- Mike Sweeney and David DeJesus each hit two-run homers Wednesday as Kansas City edged the Minnesota Twins 4-3.

DeJesus had two runs, three hits and two RBI, while Tony Pena Jr. went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Sweeney had two hits and two RBI for the Royals. Kansas City has split its last four games while occupying last place in the American League Central Division.

Winner Odalis Peres (2-2) surrendered three earned runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He notched two strikeouts.

Joakim Soria recorded his third save of the season.

Torii Hunter hit a solo homer and scored twice, while Jason Kubel hit an RBI groundout and one run scored on a double-play groundout by Michael Cuddyer for the Twins, who have a four-game losing streak.

Loser Sidney Ponson (1-3) allowed four earned runs and seven hits in six innings.
