NEW ORLEANS, April 26 (UPI) -- Cornerback Jason David Thursday joined the New Orleans Saints after the Indianapolis Colts did not match New Orleans' offer.
ESPN.com said deal with the Saints is for four years and $16.5 million.
The Super Bowl champion Colts also lost their other starting corner this off-season, when Nick Harper joined the Tennessee Titans.
The position will command a lion's share of their strategy at this weekend's NFL Draft.
Because David, a three-year veteran, was a restricted free agent, the Colts will get one of New Orleans' three fourth-round picks.
David, a fourth-round pick by the Colts in 2004 out of Washington State, has compiled 148 tackles, three fumble recoveries and eight interceptions.
He has retuned nine punts for a 5.6-yard average.
The 24-year-old David joins wide receiver David Patten, linebackers Troy Evans and Trev Faulk, and tight end Calen Powell as free agents who have signed with New Orleans this off-season.
