BUDAPEST, Hungary, April 25 (UPI) -- No. 1-seeded Tathiana Garbin won her match Wednesday but then withdrew from the Budapest Grand Prix because of a hamstring problem.
Garbin completed a rain-delayed match with Nuria Llagostera Vives, winning, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, but then announced her left leg was injured and she couldn't continue. Her withdrawal allowed Olga Savchuk to take a walkover into Friday's quarterfinals.
Also qualifying for the clay-court tournament quarterfinals Wednesday were Karin Knapp, who came back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Karolina Sprem, and Anne Kremer, who defeated Alberta Brianti, 6-4, 6-1.
In first-round play Wednesday, No. 5 Eleni Daniilidou was a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 winner over Greta Arn; sixth-seeded Gisela Dulko posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tsvetana Pironkova; and No. 7 Elena Likhovtseva was upset by Agnes Szavay, 6-4, 6-1.
