Iwamura is ninth in the American League in hitting with a .339 average and leads the Devil Rays in on-base percentage at .479 and runs scored with 15.

Team officials said Iwamura was apparently injured during Monday's game against the New York Yankees. Iwamura had two hits and scored three runs in the Devil Rays' 10-8 win over New York.

Tampa Bay recalled infielder Jorge Cantu from Triple-A Durham to take Iawmura's place on the major league roster. Cantu hit 28 home runs as a rookie in 2005 but saw his production fall off last year because of a foot injury. He was hitting .267 in 19 games for Durham this season.
