WASHINGTON, April 19 (UPI) -- Jamie Moyer gave up two earned runs and just four hits in eight innings Thursday afternoon as Philadelphia beat Washington, 4-2.

Shane Victorino and Jimmy Rollins hit RBI singles; Wes Helms hit a sacrifice fly; and Aaron Rowand hit a solo home run for the Phillies, who had lost their previous two games and had to play without slugger Ryan Howard.

Howard was sidelined by a sprained left knee ligament suffered late in a 5-4, 13-inning loss on Wednesday night.

Moyer (2-1) had four walks and five strikeouts.

Tom Gordon, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth, earned his third save of the season.

Dmitri Young went 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI and Robert Vick hit a sacrifice fly for the Nationals, who have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher John Patterson (0-3) was charged with three earned runs and seven hits in four innings.
