MLB: N.Y. Mets 3, Washington 2

NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) -- Julio Franco hit an RBI single in bottom of the seventh Friday night as the New York Mets edged Washington, 3-2.

The game was tied, 2-2, before the 49-year-old Franco slapped his game-winning hit under the glove of loser Ryan Wagner (0-1) and into centerfield.

Carlos Delgado hit an RBI single, Carlos Beltran hit an RBI groundout, and David Wright had a run and two of the five hits for the Mets, who have won three of four.

Starter Mike Pelfrey gave up two earned runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings.

The winner was Aaron Heilman (1-1), and Billy Wagner earned his third save of the season.

Chris Snelling hit an RBI single and scored a run on a double play groundout by Brian Schneider. Snelling and Austin Kearns both had two hits for the Nationals, who sank to 1-9.

Starter John Patterson gave up two earned runs and two hits in 5 1/3 innings.
