
BALTIMORE, April 13 (UPI) -- Nick Markakis hit his first major league grand slam homer Friday night to help the Baltimore Orioles beat Kansas City, 8-1.
Markakis scored twice, Aubrey Huff had two hits -- including a two-run double -- while Kevin Millar, Jay Gibbons and Melvin Mora also drove in two runs apiece for the Orioles, who have won two in a row and three of five.
Winner Erik Bedard (2-1) allowed one earned one run and five hits in six innings, with nine strikeouts and four walks.
Emil Brown hit an RBI groundout in the fourth, and Reggie Sanders had three hits for the Royals, who have lost three straight and six of seven.
Losing pitcher Brandon Duckworth (0-1) was charged with four earned runs and nine hits in five innings, with four walks and four strikeouts.
