BOSTON, April 13 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday placed right-hander Kelvim Escobar on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder irritation.
This is the sixth time the 30-year-old Escobar has spent time on the DL in his career.
He is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in two starts this season. He has nine strikeouts and six walks in 11 1/3 innings.
"I have a lot of innings in my arm," Escobar said on the team's Web site before Friday's game at Boston. "I should be fine. I'm not worried, but I'm kind of upset. Even if I miss one or two games, I still have a chance to reach my 200 innings, start 30, 31 games. I told (Manager Mike Scioscia and the trainers) that I didn't need to go on the DL."
Escobar was 11-14 with an ERA of 3.61 in 189 1/3 innings last season.
Hector Carrasco will take Escobar's spot in the starting rotation Sunday.
