Fish ousted in Houston

HOUSTON, April 12 (UPI) -- Defending champion Mardy Fish lost his second round match at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships to Argentine Mariano Zabaleta in straight sets.

The scores at the Houston-based tournament were 7-5, 6-4.

Third seed Tommy Haas of Germany, who won the title in 2004, beat America's Sam Querrey, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, fifth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria beat Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-4, 6-2; Spain's Albert Montanes held off Serbian qualifier Dusan Vemic 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; Vincent Spadea beat fellow American Michael Russell, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-1; Diego Hartfield of Argentina downed Sebastien Grosjean of France, the 2005 runner-up, 6-4, 6-4; and American Alex Kuznetsov topped German Lars Burgsmuller, 7-5, 7-5.
