OTTAWA, April 11 (UPI) -- Chris Neil had a breakaway goal and an assist as Ottawa defeated Pittsburgh 6-3 Wednesday in the opening game of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Joseph Corvo -- playing his first postseason game -- Peter Schaefer and Anton Volchenkov each had two assists for the fourth-seeded Senators, which spoiled Sidney Crosby's playoff debut. Ray Emery came away with 23 saves in the Senators' winning effort.
Crosby did register a goal in his first playoff contest and had another waived off for the Penguins, who played their first postseason game since 2001. Sergei Gonchar and 18-year-old Jordan Staal lit the lamp as well for Pittsburgh, and Marc-Andre Fleury turned away 30 shots.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series will be played in Ottawa on Saturday, with the opening faceoff set for 3 p.m.
