MLB: LA Dodgers, 2, Colorado 1

LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) -- Russell Martin hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to allow the Los Angeles Dodgers to squeak by the Colorado Rockies 2-1 Tuesday.

Joe Beimel (1-0) got the win with a scoreless two-thirds of an inning and Takashi Saito turned in a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save. Their performances capped a strong start by Brett Tomko, who pitched shutout ball for six innings while giving up one hit and three walks with nine strikeouts.

Rodrigo Lopez gave up one run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts over six innings for the Rockies. Byung-Hyun Kim (1-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up the eventual game-winning run.

Yorvit Torrealba knocked in the lone Rockies run.

Juan Pierre finished 2-for-4 for the Dodgers, while Martin went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Nomar Garciaparra finished with a double and a single.
