MLB: Toronto 8, Tampa Bay 5

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 7 (UPI) -- Frank Thomas hit his ninth career grand slam home run Saturday night to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat Tampa Bay, 8-5.

Reed Johnson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and one run scored, Royce Clayton went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, and Thomas had two hits for the Blue Jays, who have split four games to open the new season.

Winner Shaun Marcum (1-0) struck out five batters in 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Tomo Ohka.

Carl Crawford and Brendan Harris both homered, Harris drove in three, and Delmon Young went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Devil Rays, who also have split four games.

Losing pitcher Casey Fossum (0-1) gave up seven earned runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
