MLB: Detroit 3, Kansas City 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 8 (UPI) -- Ivan Rodriguez hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning Sunday afternoon to give Detroit a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Rodriguez went 2-for-4, and Carlos Guillen had a run and two hits for the Tigers, who took two of three games in the weekend series.

Winner Fernando Rodney (1-1) hurled a scoreless eighth inning and Todd Jones earned his third save of the season.

Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman yielded two earned runs and seven hits in six innings, with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Mark Teahen went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI, David DeJesus had three hits, and Ryan Shealy had two hits for the Royals, who sank to 1-11 in their last 12 home games against the Tigers.

The losing pitcher was reliever David Riske (0-1).
