BETHESDA, Md., April 6 (UPI) -- The Congressional Country Club in Maryland will be the site of The AT&T National, Tiger Woods' new PGA Tour event.
The tournament will be contested July 5-8, two weeks ahead of the British Open. The event's host is the Tiger Woods Foundation and proceeds will be used to build a Tiger Woods Learning Center in the Washington area.
The tournament fills a spot on the PGA Tour schedule left empty when The International lost its sponsor. It also gives the Washington area a PGA tournament. The area recently lost the Booz Allen Classic, which had been the Washington PGA stop since 1980.
Woods rarely appeared at the International, which was a factor in its demise, and usually bypassed the Booz Allen.
His new event has drawn criticism for plans for a 120-player field. Last year the Booz Allen had 156 entrants.
