DETROIT, April 5 (UPI) -- Wintry weather conditions forced the postponement of Thursday's game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tigers at Detroit.

Thursday morning's weather in Detroit was cold with moderate light snow falling and wind gusts creating a wind chill of 14 degrees.

Officials wasted little time in rescheduling the contest for Sept. 10.

"It was a smart decision with players are at risk," Detroit Manager Jim Leyland said on his team's Web site. "I think also you think of the fans when you call a game like this. No one wants to come out in this."

The teams split the first two games in the three-game series, with Toronto winning Monday's season-opener, 5-3, and Detroit winning Wednesday, 10-9.
