AUGUSTA, Ga., April 5 (UPI) -- Justin Rose and Brett Wetterich are co-leaders after the first 18 holes of the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga.
Both players shot 3-under 69 in the opening round of the first major tournament on the PGA Tour this year.
They have a one-shot lead over David Toms and David Howell, with a group of five players -- including J.J. Henry and former PGA Championship winner Rich Beem -- two shots back at 1-under 71.
Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are tied for 15th at 1-over 73, and defending champion Phil Mickelson is tied for 43rd at 4-over 76.
"I just threw away a good round of golf, absolutely threw it away," Woods said. "The last two holes, I'm right there at 1-under par, and I go bogey-bogey."
"I don't feel I've driven myself out of it," Mickelson said. "If I get out and shoot a 68 tomorrow, I'll be right back in it."
