Kenny Rogers placed on disabled list

DETROIT, March 29 (UPI) -- Detroit pitcher Kenny Rogers has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a tired arm.

The Tigers said the roster move involved Rogers is retroactive to last Sunday, meaning Rogers would miss at least one turn in the rotation and be eligible to return to the team April 9, one week into the regular season. Detroit opens the 2007 season Monday with a home game against Toronto.

Tigers General Manager Dave Dombrowski told the Detroit Free Press, "I don't think it's a long-term thing."

"His whole body was achy like you normally have with the flu, and then, after that, his arm just continued to feel heavy," he said.

Rogers, 42, was 17-8 with a 3.84 earned run average last season -- his first with Detroit. He did not allow a run in 23 innings of pitching in the playoffs.

Rogers is entering his 19th season and has a 207-139 record and 4.19 ERA. He's previously pitched for Texas, Oakland and the New York Yankees.
