Roddick reaches third round

MIAMI, March 23 (UPI) -- Former champion Andy Roddick recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over Martin Vassallo Arguello Friday to reach the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open.

Rafael Nadal, meanwhile, remained hot with a 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 triumph over Ricardo Mello. Nadal is coming off his victory last week at Indian Wells.

Novak Djokovic, who fell to Nadal in the finals last week, moved on in this tournament by defeating Thomas Johansson, 7-5, 6-3. James Blake, seeded eighth, fell to Florent Serra 7-6 (10-8), 2-6, 6-3.

Other winners included Andy Murray, David Ferrer, Mikhail Youzhny and Juan Martin del Portro.
