Predators' Tootoo suspended five games

NEW YORK, March 19 (UPI) -- The NHL suspended Nashville Predators forward Jordin Tootoo for five games Monday for hitting Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas in the face.

The incident occurred late in the third period of the Predators game Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.

Robidas was knocked unconscious and was carried off the ice on a stretcher. He will be out at least a week with a concussion.

Robidas was going to the defense of teammate Mike Modano and was assessed a minor for charging on the play. Tootoo received a double-minor for roughing.

"While a player is entitled to defend himself, Mr. Tootoo's forceful blow to Robidas' head was an overly aggressive and inappropriate response," said Colin Campbell, NHL senior executive vice president and director of hockey operations.

Tootoo, 24, has three goals, four assists and 104 penalty minutes in 61 games this season.
