NEW YORK, March 19 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd were selected the NBA players of the week, the league said Monday.

Bryant became the first Lakers' player since Elgin Baylor in 1962 to score at least 50 points in consecutive games when he put up 65 against Portland Friday and 50 versus Minnesota Sunday. He averaged 46.7 points a game in the week in which the Lakers went 2-1.

Kidd has posted double-doubles in four consecutive games and averaged 14.5 points and 12.8 assists a game last week. The Nets went 3-1 on the week, which ended in a win Sunday over the Los Angeles Clippers in which Kidd had 23 points and 13 assists.
