NHL: Pittsburgh 3, New Jersey 0

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., March 14 (UPI) -- Jocelyn Thibault registered his first shutout of the season Wednesday night as the Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the New Jersey Devils, 3-0.

Thibault stopped all 24 shots he faced and got the only goal he needed at 17:18 of the second period from Jarkko Ruutu.

Erik Christensen and Jordan Staal added goals in the third period, and Ruutu had one assist for the Penguins, who have won five of their last six games to overtake idle Ottawa for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 88 points.

Martin Brodeur gave up three goals on 22 shots for the Devils, who had won their previous two games.

New Jersey is two points behind Buffalo for top spot in the East.

There were no power-play goals on three combined chances.
