Jay Haas takes the Toshiba Classic

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 11 (UPI) -- Jay Haas shot 6-under-par 65 Sunday to win the Toshiba Classic at Newport Beach, Calif., by two shots over R.W. Eaks (65).

In the closing round, the reigning Champions Tour Player of the Year finished with a record score of 19-under 194, bettering the 196 of Hale Irwin in 2002.

Eaks ended two back after closing with back-to-back birdies.

Ben Crenshaw (68) and Joe Ozaki (68) shared third place at 13-under 200.

Peter Jacobsen (71), Mark O'Meara (67), Tom Purtzer (68) and Denis Watson (65) tied for fifth at 12-under 201.

Two-time defending U.S. Senior Open champion Allen Doyle (66) grabbed a share of ninth at 11-under 202 with Keith Fergus (67), John Jacobs (67), Bruce Lietzke (69), Lonnie Nielsen (65) and Eduardo Romero (68).
