NHL: Florida 2, Philadelphia 1

PHILADELPHIA, March 9 (UPI) -- Chris Gratton had a goal and an assist Thursday night as Florida downed the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1.

Gratton was credited with the go-ahead goal without ever shooting the puck, when an outlet pass hit Philadelphia goalie Martin Biron, who misplayed the puck and bounced it off teammate Randy Jones into the net.

Since Gratton was the last Florida player to touch the puck, he got credit for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Ville Peltonen also scored a goal; and Ed Belfour made 26 saves on 27 shots for the Panthers, who have won five of six.

Dmitry Afanasenkov had the lone goal, and Biron made 35 saves on 37 shots for Philadelphia, which beat Atlantic Division-leading New Jersey, 5-4, in overtime on Tuesday.

There were no power play goals on nine combined chances.
