COL BKB: N.C. State 79, Virginia 71

TAMPA, Fla., March 9 (UPI) -- Brandon Costner had 22 points and six rebounds Friday night as N.C. State upset No.24 Virginia, 79-71, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in Tampa.

To get the victory, NCSU overcame a 40-26 halftime deficit, outscoring Virginia, 53-31, in the second half.

Gavin Grant, who scored nine points in the game's last two minutes, had 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists; Ben McCauley had 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists; and Engin Atsur added 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists for the Wolfpack (17-14), who were swept in the season series between the teams.

Sean Singletary led Virginia with 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists, but did not make a field goal in the second half.

J.R. Reynolds had 11 points and four assists; while Mamadi Diane added 10 points and three rebounds for the second-seeded Cavaliers (20-10), who could not bounce back from their regular season ending loss at Wake Forest.
