The substance is banned by the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program.

Hunter, 36, a reserve, has per game averages of 4.6 points and 1.4 assists in 39 contests this season.

The suspension, which comes without pay, began with Wednesday night's game against Cleveland.

"I took a diet pill and it had a banned substance," he said on the team's Web site before Wednesday's game. "I was just as shocked as everybody else."

He added the pill was a prescription filled for his wife, Ivy.

The former Jackson State product will be eligible to return March 25, when Detroit travels to Milwaukee.

In 13 NBA seasons, Hunter has played in 859 games for Detroit, Milwaukee, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Redskins release kicker Jon Hall

LEESBURG, Va., March 7 (UPI) -- Veteran placekicker Jon Hall was released Wednesday by the Washington Redskins.

In three seasons after being acquired from the New York Jets in 2003, the injury-plagued Hall struggled.

Each season with Washington was cut short because of leg or groin injuries.

Last season, the 10-year veteran, a University of Wisconsin product, played in just five games, making 9 of 11 field goals and nine extra points.

In 134 career games, he has made 203 of 272 field goal attempts, and kicked 280 of 286 extra point tries.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the Redskins will save $1.5 million against their salary cap.

Before he was acquired by the Redskins, Hall signed a five-year, $7.1 million contract as a free agent in 2003.

Washington inherited the contract when it made the trade with the Jets.

Broncos sign Daniel Graham

DENVER, March 7 (UPI) -- Free agent tight end Daniel Graham has signed a five-year, $30-million contract with the Denver Broncos.

The 6-foot-3, 257-pounder has spent his entire five-year career with the New England Patriots, who made him a first-round draft pick in 2002 out of the University of Colorado.

In his 63-game NFL career, Graham has 17 touchdowns on 120 receptions for 1,393 yards.

Last season, he scored twice on 21 catches for 235 yards.

"We think he can be a factor in the passing game, obviously," assistant coach Mike Heimerdinger told the Rocky Mountain News. "I think our history is that we're able to get the ball to the tight end."

Graham grew up in Denver, and his father, Tom, played linebacker for the Broncos (1972-74).

Raiders amend contracts for Curry, Jordan

OAKLAND, Calif., March 7 (UPI) -- The Oakland Raiders have restructured the contracts of wide receiver Ronald Curry and running back LaMont Jordan.

Both players agreed to take salary cuts for the 2007 season.

"As we continue to find ways to build and improve upon our team through our evaluation process, it was imperative that LaMont and Ronald were on board," new Coach Lane Kiffin said. "It was extremely important to get their contract situations settled. We look forward to working with both players, introducing them to the many changes we will have on offense, and including them in our new team philosophy as well."

Jordan played in only nine games last season because of a knee injury he suffered on Nov. 19.
