ACAPULCO, Mexico, March 2 (UPI) -- Tathiana Garbin was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel tennis tournament Thursday, leaving the event without its top four seeds.

Garbin, the seeded second, lost to Sara Errani, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Garbin had lost in the championship match last week in Bogota.

The top seed remaining in the tournament is No. 5 Flavia Pennetta, who won over Alize Cornet, 7-5, 6-4. Emilie Loit defeated sixth-seeded Gisela Dulko, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

Pennetta reached the title match here last year before losing to Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
