NHL teams to open next season in London

NEW YORK, March 1 (UPI) -- The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings will open the 2007-08 NHL season with a pair of games in London, the National Hockey League announced.

The NHL said the games will be played as a home-and-home series between the Kings and Ducks on Sept. 29-30 at the O2 Arena. While the NHL has played exhibitions in London before, the September games would be the professional hockey league's first regular-season contests in Europe.

"Our commitment to grow the game globally has never been stronger," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "The NHL is extremely proud to be represented in London by two great hockey organizations in the Ducks and Kings as well as to be recording NHL history at such a fantastic facility in the O2."
