Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 1 (UPI) -- Sean Singletary keyed a late 6-0 run Thursday night as No. 25 Virginia beat No. 21 Virginia Tech, 69-59, to remain atop the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Virginia began the night tied for frst place in the ACC with Virginia Tech and North Carolina. North Carolina faced Georgia Tech in a later game Thursday night.
The Cavaliers improved to 20-8 for the season and to 11-4 in the ACC with their fourth win in five games.
Singletary scored 17 points and keyed the 6-0 run that gave Virginia a 13-point cushion with 3:16 to play. Mamadi Diane and J.R. Reynolds both scored 13 for the Cavaliers.
The Hokies (20-9, 10-5) were led by Zabian Dowdell with 17.
Virginia won for the 16th time in 17 home games this season.
