Cotton Bowl game expected to leave Dallas

DALLAS, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- It's a "foregone conclusion" the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic will leave its eponymous stadium in Dallas for the Cowboys' new suburban digs, an official said.

Texas State Fair President and Cotton Bowl Classic Board Member Errol McKoy told Tuesday's Dallas Morning News there is no doubt in his mind that the AT&T Cotton Bowl Stadium has seen its last championship college football game.

"It's been a foregone conclusion that they're leaving," McKoy said, adding "they'll have an announcement here soon."

The No. 1 consideration is Cotton Bowl officials want a domed stadium, State Fair Chairman Pete Schenkel told the Morning News.

"That's something that we cannot and will not ever provide -- a roof over their head."

The Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington, Texas, will feature a retractable roof. The NFL team is to move into the stadium for the 2009 season.

A proposed move from the Cotton Bowl, which is on the Texas State Fairgrounds in Dallas, is at the top of the agenda for the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic Board, which is meeting in Dallas this week.
